ABOUT THE WEB PORTAL
The Archival material of the Church registers collection (F.402, 1756-1895) which was categorized by the decision of the Executive Council of the Assembly of the SR of Serbia in 1979 as an archival material of exceptional importance, consists of church registers of baptisms (births), marriages and deaths, eight denominations from a total of 488 inhabited places, from today’s territory of AP Vojvodina (252) and border territories of Croatia (20), Hungary (29) and Romania(187).
Church registers were public documents in the period before the Law on State Registers came into force on Hungarian territory on December 18, 1894. Duplicates and transcripts of these registers were handed over to the authorities after the end of the every year and later submitted to the Archives of Vojvodina for safekeeping as part of the county archive. Therefore, they are not subject to the Law on the return (restitution) of property to churches and religious communities. (Sl. glasnik RS, No. 46/2006 ).
The territory of Srem used to be a part of Srem County with its headquarters in Vukovar, and the archive was later handed over to the State Archives of Croatia in Zagreb. We have no whereabouts information of the church register duplicates and transcripts that were submitted to the Srem County office.
This digital collection of the Archives of Vojvodina like the data portal, are the result of projects supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information in 2015 and 2022.
Instruction
The web portal is created to enable online searching in 1756-1895 period church registers from the former territories of Bács-Bodrog, Torontál and Temes County also today’s territory of Bačka and Banat in Serbia and border territories of Croatia, Hungary and Romania.
The digitazed records are available on the portal in a reduced resolution. If you need a higher resolution record or a certified printed copy, you need to submit a request via e-mail zahtevi@arhivvojvodine.org.rs or on paper through the Archives of Vojvodina office.
The cost of processing your requests is determined according to the current price list of the Archive of Vojvodina. The requested recording will be delivered after after the payment is confirmed.
For data searching in registers which are not part of our collection or in church registers – first copies, contact the local archive competent for the place in question or the specific religious community.
